Mr. Girma Neway one of the founding members and member of Board of Directors of Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS) settled a cash of Birr 10,000 (714 USD) at once and automatically became the first Honorable Member of Mathiwos Wondu- YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS).

Mr. Girma Neway handing over Birr 10,000 to Mr. Wondu Bekele, General Manager at his office.

Mr. Girma Neway is 60 years old, married and has four children, chemist by profession, has enormous working experience particularly in the textile technology.  He has worked in different positions ranging from finishing manager to General Manager at different textile companies.  After several years of working experience in textile sector finally joined Ageca Ethiopia, presently working as partner and General Manager.

Mr. Girma in addition to his participation as a member and board member contributed a lot in enhancing the capacity of our society.  Four years ago Mr. Girma helped our society to become associate member of International Union Against Cancer (UICC) the world's renowned independent, non-profit, non-governmental association of cancer-fighting organizations by donating 1,000 USD annual membership fee, one of the basic requirements to join the organization.  Thanks to his generous support, our society joined international effort to combat the growing cancer burden worldwide.  The society also has been familiarized with different countries and organizations experiences and secured a fund to implement the first anti-tobacco campaign in Ethiopia.

Mr. Girma also helped our Society to settle two years of outstanding membership fee of International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parents Organization (ICCCPO).  Thanks to his involvement and support we are able to convince ICCCPO secretariat to reduce annual membership fee of 500 Euro to 100 Euro and we settled two years fee of 200 Euro accordingly.

The staffs at Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society thank Mr.Girma for his continued support and outstanding leadership. Our achievement to improve the lives of cancer patients in general and pediatric cancer patients and families in particular were made possible by his generous support and involvement. Taking in to account the peculiar condition we are in, we know that we can’t change all cancer related problems here in Ethiopia in a foreseeable future, but still we can change something today.

Cancer is not a battle that one can fight and win in isolation and we look forward to the professional, moral and material support of willing individuals and organizations in order to make a difference!
